INCREASE IN VISITORS
In Fiordland National Park, the number of international tourists has increased from an estimated 196,100 in 1997 to 441,200 in 2008 (Ministry of Tourism, International Visitor Survey). It has increased in 245,000 visitors in 10 years.
The uncontrolled development can lead to pressure on the environment and can have harmful effects on the landscape and the flora and fauna of the area.
The tourist infrastructure can cause damage to vegetation, pollution of waterways as a result of wastewater discharge, and loss of wildlife habitat.

Milford Dart
It is a tunnel of ten kilometres that tries to join Fiordland and the Mount Aspiring parks.
Milford Dart Ltd proposed the tunnel in 2005, which, of being approved, would reduce the half of the time of a return trip of nine hours for the visitors who travel by bus from Queenstown to Milford.
In July, 2013 the project was paralyzed, but it still continues in mind.
